Location

In 2019 a major change in location was made from the traditional (since 1989) start/finish area on Blockhouse Island in downtown Brockville.

The Blockhouse area on Canada Day was becoming increasingly congested with vendor setups, and increased traffic to the point where it was no longer suitable for a race start/finish area.

The course itself with its many busy intersections was also difficult to marshal properly, in view of difficulties recruiting sufficient volunteers.

The move to the new section of the Brock Trail in the north end was considered a great success in 2019 and with a few tweaks will be used again this year.

The start/finish area will again be at the Brockville Rotary Field House (Brockville Minor Soccer Club Fields) on Laurier Boulevard.

Past 5K Winners

A summary compiled originally by Rick Swift, and subsequently added to, gives the men and women winners since 1993. (The first 4 races from 1989 to 1992 were over the 10K distance.)

Paula Wiltse (photo) has won the 5K an incredible 10 times, including 6 consecutive wins between 2013 and 2018 (Paula did not compete in 2019). Paula, an elite national masters runner, also holds the Blockhouse Island course record of 17:21 she set in 2010.

On the men’s side, Kevin Beatty has 8 wins to his credit, setting the men’s course record of 15:30 in 2001, which he duplicated in 2005!
