FYB#3 2021 – Extended Report

The third of the 3 run virtual Freeze Your Buns was completed over the March 27/28, 2021 weekend. As for the first two, there was again an impressive turnout. This time  71 runners/walkers young and old took part in this Covid-19 restricted virtual event

The results, as compiled by Liam Cullen and reported by Brian Gartley, have been published and posted and can be found here.

The fastest overall male time, 19:36, was that of the talented young Travis Gaffney.

On the women’s side, Nicola Garvin (Jones) made it 3 for 3, by again running the fastest time, this time in 20:44.

In the 1K under 13 race, the Smiths were again to the fore. This time Lucas Smith finished in 5:32  with sister Kayla Smith very close behind in 5:35. Lexi Belanger was third in 6:03

Some other notable performances, with time vs the age of the runner being a major contributing factor in my rather arbitrary personal selection.

(Undoubtedly the degree of difficulty of the various 5K courses selected and run by individual runners could/should be taken into account, but since unknown, cannot):

40-49: Christie Walker 21:24; 50-59: Kim Redden 22:28; 60-69: Kathryn Miller-Pringle 27:03

60-69: Ian Loughrey 19:57; U15: Colin Notman 21:43;  50-59: Pierre Quevillon 22:05;  80-89 Merv Hodgson 31:40 (on the day before his 83rd birthday)

Congrats to all and to all age category winners and indeed to all participants for supporting this first and very successful venture into the virtual world of running by BRRC.

And of course kudos and many thanks to president Brian Gartley and to the rest of the club executive, with the assistance and advice of longtime director of the FYBs, Janet Wynands, for giving us to the opportunity to run and compete against each other, at a distance.

All 3 runs were in support of the Brockville and Area Food Bank.
