A large group of friends of Rick and Shelley Steenwyk’s turned out to honour Rick’s memory on Thanksgiving Monday, October 13, 2025. Rick sadly passed away in early October 2024.
A commemorative 5K run, walk, roll, with proceeds going to the Brockville General Hospital Palliative Care Unit, had been organized.
Before setting out on the 5K from Paul Mac’s on Parkedale Ave, Shelley spoke movingly of her late husband Rick and gave special thanks to all the staff and volunteers of the Palliative Care Unit. They had been a great comfort to Rick himself and a vital support to Shelley, to daughters Sarah and Shannon, and to all the family during a very difficult time.
Post-5K coffee – provided by Road Runners favourite Timmies – was very welcome and there were a number of draw prizes.

By the day of the run over $900 had been raised for the Palliative Care Unit. Donations continued to come in past the event and a very impressive total of $2425 was raised. Shelley expresses her thanks to all who donated and to those who came out to support the event.
