Tony Dunbar, developer (amateur and volunteer) and current webmaster, wishes to thank club past-president Rhonda McNish for spearheading the update project and outlining the preferred overall design in terms of content, general navigation, etc. Thanks also to Scott Morrison for setting up a development environment on his server and for identifying and setting up some initial layouts and adding a calendar plugin. Scott was also available for consultation as required.
The new website covers most if not all of the bases. There is still ample room for a new webmaster to add additional features: photo galleries, profiles of members, more results and other material from the archives, Facebook and Twitter feeds, etc, etc.
The new website is WordPress-based using the Divi Theme from Elegant Themes. This is pretty powerful software and is designed to produce websites of all types from the basic to the highly sophisticated with all the bells and whistles.
If you would like to jump in and take on the task of updating and maintaining this new website, we would love to hear from you. Get in touch via the Contact Us page or direct email. Tony Dunbar will be more than happy to guide you through the basics of using the Divi package.
One of the main features of Divi is the provision of the ability to create websites that are geared towards multiple screen sizes: desktop, laptop, tablet and phones, i.e. responsive websites. With the plethora of screen sizes currently available, especially for cellphones, designing a website to meet all sizes was a slow and painstaking task.
For the iPhone alone there is a range of different screen sizes in pixels (px) that are available and potentially in use and that need to be designed for. Included are: 320, 375, 414, and 750 px. Then Samsung and Google each has its own set of screen sizes using for example 412 and 360 not used by the iPhone.:
Every attempt has been made to accommodate as many screen sizes as possible. If you are finding some issues with your particular device, please let us know, via the Contact Us page or direct email. We will make every effort to make the necessary adjustments if the software permits.
