A contingent of local runners participated in the October 19, 13th annual 5K/10K organized by the Russell Run Club. This followed on the first such visit in 2023, where all were impressed by the nature of the run and the special welcome shown to our group.
Ed Eby again led the way in organizing the trip in terms of coordinating car pools, having bibs picked up and selecting the local Big Bite Bistro for a post-race meal. Dessert was a tasty birthday cake to celebrate the passage of a certain personage into a senior (very!) age category.
The occasion was also used to congratulate Shane and Julia who were engaged earlier in the year. The engagement ring was a very special ring from Ireland, the legendary Claddagh Ring.
Results were good with pride of place going to Shane Curless. Shane was first across the 10K finish line in a race record time of 36:59:40. The first six runners beat the previous 40:56:19 record, set in 2022. Congrats to board member Shane on a stellar performance.
The race also marked the debut of new club member and Brockville resident Miro Nuetzi. Miro completed the 10K in 56:32:20. Welcome to the club and congrats Miro.
